Getting Help-online and off!
Newcomers to using a computer or the Internet are sometimes unsure of how to do something. Maybe they need to reset the margins on a paper they are typing or maybe they need to figure out how to do something on a web site they are visiting but they don't know how.

What to do? You could try an find someone to show you,  but this is going to cost time and money.

A simpler way is to ask the computer. Always remember, help on the computer is only a click away. This report will give you some easy tips on getting the help you need.

Using the Help Button
Lets pretend you are typing a document using Word. You need to set the margins but you don't know how.

Look across the top of the screen for the word "Help" and click on it. A box will open with the help files it it.

Use the search box and type in "set margins" and all the topics about setting margins will appear in a list. Pick the one that relates to what you want to do and click on it.

Like magic, the instructions will appear telling you exactly how to set the margins. And you can do this with any program since they all have a help button.

So don't be frustrated or get too discouraged, just ask for Help. When you are learning your way around a computer, the help button should become your best friend.

Getting Help Online
Your browser (this is the program you use to go on the Internet such as Internet Explorer)  also has a Help button.  It will give you instructions on how to do things like print a web page, bookmark or save information, and many other tasks.

Your email also has a Help button and will give you instructions on how to use your email account.

Do not be afraid to use the Help button. You should click on them and just explore what information they have to offer. Remember, help is there but if you don't click on it, you will never get it.

Most programs also have a website. On this website will be advanced help files and also tutorials you can do to learn the program. If you want to know how to use Microsoft Word, do a search and find their website. Visit it and see what information or help is available. It is there for you to use free of charge.

There are also many tutorials that are Free that others have organized and provided for you to use. They are easy to do and will allow you to learn a program at your own pace. A good site to visit to find a tutorial is http://www.khake.com/page67.html

Getting Help on a Website
If you are visiting a web site and you find you have questions, again look for a Help button.

Sometimes web sites don't have a help button but they have one that says FAQ (frequently asked questions). If you click on this a list of questions and answers will appear.

Most often, the question you have has been asked before and answered. You just need to scan through the questions to find one that is similar to yours and read the answer.

And if this doesn't work and your question is still not answered, look for a button that says Contact Us. This will open an email and you can write directly to the webmaster to get an answer. They will respond to you by email so make sure you enter your email address correctly. And be patient, getting an email response can take several days.
